Sorry for your loss CJ. Sounds like he was a pretty cool guy to have for a grandfather. Nice tribute to him.
Good luck with the JW funeral.
yesterday at 3 am my grandfather.. 95 more or less... passed away after a heart attack... i got the call at 8 am.
so i am the oldest grandson (out of 40) he was faithful, (thats what they want to say) reality is he wasnt, he cursed, he drank, he had plenty of women during his life.. he was an elder at some point and he was ultra good with everyone.
he had a heart of gold... he treated me as his son, he never cared about my status.

i wanted to share some news from a family friend (he is my wt mole - still an elder, hates the shenanigans, but is still hanging on for all the reasons often discussed on this site) i know the various rumors have been discussed on here, and unfortunately the rumor about the conventions being eliminated weren't true!
(what a burden on the jw community - financial hardship for a good portion of them, guilting people into actually quitting their job to attend, physically exhausting for many, etc...etc......).
anyway, he told me that the district convention is being moved to 11 weekends at the jw-owned circuit assembly hall, and they are no longer planning on renting stadiums/large facilities in our area (northern ohio/southern michigan).
It sounds possible. When I hear that the were doing away with the bookstudy night it didn't seem possible yet it happen. It might make sense for them to try it at least for a few years. District conventions at large facilities aways brought some media coverage for the Watchtower and with all the bad press they have had over the last few years with pedo cases they may want to lay low for a few years. Also with a 2014 district convention it might come out that according to them it is also the 100 anniversay of Christ's return. Questions from the press about how they intend to celebrate it wouldn't be welcome.
for those that dont know my story, basically i "woke up the ttatt" about a year ago, started fading, then went back, now fading again because i just cant stomach it anymore.
my husband is very supportive, although he's still "in" for now, and trying to be regular with meetings and witnessing, he can see my point of view now, and often notices things in the wt or other publications that are "off".
the fading thing is hard, sometimes i want to da, but because of the upheaval it would cause my family, im waiting a little while - i guess hoping that my husband will be on the same page at some point, so that we can support eachother.
I agree with what Cyberjesus said. The not knowing isn't the problem. The thinking that you have to know is the problem. I believe the desire to know the answer to "the big question" is part of the egos need to be right. One of the coolest things that happened to me when I left the JWs was that I lost my desire have all the answers. I still had beliefs but they were alway evolving and subject to change.
I think you should just enjoy the journey and not worry about having all the answers and being right.
i owe this one to palmtree (from an outside conversation):.
i had forgotten it, but way back in the late 1960s, when all the "real annointed" were pretty old, and the whole organization seemed to be run by the "other sheep" - i think somewhere between 1966 and 1968, i first ran into this term:.
"cracker eater" - a dispespectful term for the old, presumably senile, truly pre-1935 era jw annointed.. here is my nearly-forgotten story:.
Great story. I love that term. This is the first time I've heard it. I wonder if in JW circles it is referred to as the "C word(s)"
best wishes for 2013. .
here is a scene from last year's hogmanay celebrations in edinburgh... .
Happy Hogmanay to you also Cofty. Nice picture. I hope to get over there and see Scotland someday.

8 not ashamed of the good news .
while it is true that jehovahs witnesses are hated and opposed in all the nations of the earth, this is in fulfillment of what was foretold to be an identifying mark of genuine worshipers of the one living and true god.
Totally irrelevant. As others have said once you are out you realize just how pointless and irrelevant Jehovah's Witnesses are. As for being hated my experience has been that in most cases friends, relatives and the people a Jdbub works with bend over backwards trying not to offend them. You see a lot of this around the holidays.
early yesterday morning i was driving through town on a street that rearly has any foot traffic and never at 7:30 am on a sunday morning and there they were.
a group of jbubs milling about counting time.
i drove a little further and there was a second group walking slowly down the street in the morning drizzle.
I wonder why more JWs don't see through this scam and start doubting their beliefs. I guess its just the amount of brainwashing they receive.

yep... just like amway.. they're their own customer...
And you don't even get any soap or cleaning supplies.
hello, its been a long time since i was an active member to this forum.
life had gotten busy, and i had forgotten my old log in information.
it was 11 years, and 3 computers ago when i had made my original account here.
Welcome back. I love to hear after the Watchtower success stories. A lot of people need to hear them.

One thing I know is that if they were selling cookies they would never go about it this way.
Deep down these witness have know they are running a time card scam and so do the head scammers in Brooklyn and none of them care. The individual Jdubs get their hours in and the Watchtower gets the hours they need for their statistics. The literature is already bought and paid for so it does't really matter if there is no one there to accept it.
